These bearings are rated 'C3' which means the correct interference fit to the crank & crankcases. If the bearings are not the correct fit in the crankcases or round the crank then they will spin around damaging both the crank & cases .Both bearings are open (unsealed) type, don't use sealed bearings in the crank as they need to be lubricated by the fuel mixture. The grease in sealed bearings will melt at normal operating temperatures and the bearings will seize

Bearings will be either Koyo, Nachi, NSK or MS brand, all OEM Manufacturers, depends on our stock at the time of order. Rest assured all bearings we supply are of the highest quality.

When fitting or removing crank bearings remember the crankcase has to be REALLY hot. Rule of thumb is if you spit on the cases and it just rolls off rather than evaporating the cases are hot enough.

When fitting the bearing to the flywheel side drop the crank in soon after fitting the bearing as the bearing will have expanded enough to take it. If you let the case cool down before fitting the crank then you will have to use a big hammer which will terminally damage the thread on the other end, even with the nut fitted. We have seen this many times, the thread can be fixed but is expensive and you will damage the new bearing fitted in the case so it will need replaced aswell.

There are a number of ways to get the casing hot enough.

1. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, the wife may not like this though!

2. Blow torch for about 10-15 minutes

3. Our preferred option is to use a hot air gun, the paint stripping type

for about 10-15 minutes per case. Much safer option and keeps the workshop nice and warm on the cold winter days.

We also keep all the other bearings and oil seals for the engine
